Two workers have been killed by an explosion at a drilling rig in an oilfield near Orla in Loving County, Texas, slightly before 8.00 am local time on Wednesday 30 April 2014. Nine other workers were treated for cuts and lacerations caused by flying shrapnel from the explosion, though none is thought to be in a serious condition. One of the victims has been named as Amos Ortega (46) of Artesia, the second man has yet to be named.

The accident reportedly happened following a pressure build-up while a well head was being installed at the site. The accident will be investigated internally by well operators RKI Exploration & Production, as well as by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Texas Railroad Commission.
