Man killed in accident at New South Wales Mine.

A worker was killed in an accident at the Glencore Xstrata owned CSA Copper Mine in Cobar, New South Wales, at about 11.15 pm local time on Wednesday 11 June 2014. The worker has been described as a 26-year-old man  from Victoria, who was apparently trying to dislodge debris from a pipe attached to some machinery when he was sucked in. Co-workers and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man at the scene unsuccessfully, and he was later pronounced dead at the Cobar Hospital.

Production at the mine has been suspended while an investigation is carried out by New South Wales Police assisted by officers from the New South Wales Mine Safety Investigation Unit.

The CSA Mine is a underground mine employing approximately 350 workers. It produces about 1.1 million tonnes of copper ore per year, the majority of which is exported to India, China and Southeast Asia.
