Collision between ships causes oil spill of Singapore.

Around 4500 tonnes (33 000 barrels) of Madura crude oil (crude oil originating from the Madura Offshore Field in Indonesia) has been spilled following a collision between two ships which occurred about 20 km to the northeast of Singapore at about 6.00 am local time on Friday 2 January 2015. The Libyan registered Alyarmouk was en route from Tanjung Pelapas in Malaysia to an unknown port in China when it collided with the Singapore-registered bulk carrier Sinar Kapuas, travelling from Singapore to Hong Kong in High Seas.

There are no reports of any injuries following the incident, and traffic from the Port of Singapore is reported to be otherwise unaffected. However the the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore has issued a warning to Malaysian and Indonesian authorities of the risk of drifting oil in the Straits of Malacca, and in particular of the danger of oil reaching the Indonesian island of Bintan. Private oil spill response companies have been brought in to deal with the spill.

This is the second maritime incident off Singapore this week, on Wednesday 31 December 2014 a Singapore registered barge ran aground near Pedra Brancain adverse conditions.
